We spent our day up in the Queen Anne neighborhood, a cute little suburb in Seattle, lunching, eating ice cream, playing at the park and filling up on Vitamin D. Rob and I used to go to this park a lot when we were in college together at Seattle Pacific University and I’ve always wanted to take my kiddos there. Honestly, they weren’t impressed. I don’t think they even saw the view. When they saw the park below they made a beeline for it. I soaked in the gorgeousness for a few minutes, but on a day like today it was super crowded, mainly with prom goers, dressed to the nines and smiling wide for their photos. Still, I loved going back there. It’ll always be a special place to me.

And tomorrow is suppose to be even more lovely. I hope you are enjoying this lovely, sun soaked weekend with your friends and family as well.

We went to the movies, ate loads of popcorn, took a hike, painted on canvases, visited Starbucks, had tickle wars, had lunch dates, shopped, and just enjoyed one each others company.
Life gets pretty busy around here and it was nice to not be on a schedule as we normally are on during the week and just hang out.

These two love to be with each other. As I type this, they are sitting (they have squeezed themselves into it is more like it) in an office chair together and are making up songs about holidays that require burping while telling jokes. I feel lucky that they really are the best of friends and love to be together. Sure, they want to strangle one another sometimes, and Rob and I have to referee disagreements and dole out quiet time to get some peace in the house between the two, but for the most part, they truly are best friends, and admire one another and are crazy for one another. They’ve just recently in the last two weeks quit having weekend slumber parties. For years, they slept together on the weekends or any long break from school. To see that end was a little heart breaking. But they knew when it was time to stop and seem to be ok with leaving that part of their relationship behind.

I hope and pray that the strong relationship they share now, continues into their grownup lives. The adolescent years will be a different story I expect, but they have such a strong bond now that hopefully the raging hormones will not break that close bond they have now. It’s so awesome to see and experience.

This photo was from our hike in the rain at Discovery Park. It was cold and wet and at first we were hesitant to walk to the beach in the nasty weather. But we did it and are happy about it. We laughed a lot along the way, saw lots of cool nature and made a memory to remember for the rest of our lives.

I love my little people, but sometime this mama and dad just need a break, ya know?

I know you do.

We lead pretty busy lives (as does everyone else I know) and sometimes it’s nice to knock everything off of the calendar and focus on one another. It’s so easy to get too busy and get into the habit of living life with all of its demands and routines, but we try to make a point of spending time together, whether it be at home with a movie and take out, a little trip to a another part of town for the night, or a couple of days in one of our favorite cities.

So we’re dropping the boy and girl off with Nonna and Papa this weekend for a little couple R+R. Just the two of us.

This comes at the perfect time, as next week is Spring Break for them and we’ll have all sorts of time to spend together and have fun.

So, with that, I say, see you in a couple of days.
